Hi there, my name is Alberto, founder of Nomad Jiu-jitsu. I am a Black Belt under Mestre Rico Vieira, Founder of CheckMat and Fight Zone Rio de Janeiro. After working with him for years, I decided to open a permanent team and boutique studio in Miami Beach.

For 16 years, I’ve lived in places as diverse as England, Venezuela, Portugal, Mexico, and Brazil in search of the best teachers and competitions. Countless medals, injuries, friendships, and memories later - I’m proud to call Miami home.

My goal is to inspire and educate people about the sporting, fitness, and wellness aspects of Jiu-jitsu. The martial arts journey is about following a sense of curiosity, building a sense of pride, and earning a sense of belonging. Ultimately, BJJ is a metaphor for the inner work that we all must do.

Our training caters to your priorities rather than imposing a one-size-fits-all model. We optimize for physical health and inner wellness, which are necessary to achieving a flow state in the learning environment.

In my competition career, I won the 2016 IBJJF No Gi Championship in London. I took second place at the 2018 CBJJP world championship. The following year, I placed third in the European IBJJF Championship in Lisbon. In 2022, I placed second in the Orlando IBJJF Open, third place in the Pan American No Gi Championship in Dallas, and third place in the No Gi IBJJF World Championship in Los Angeles.
